Job Specification: Plant Manager – Grange Backup Power Facility

Position Overview

The Plant Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management, strategic planning, and operational oversight of the Grange Backup Power Facility, a 110 MW natural gas-fired power generation plant located at Grange Castle Business Park, Dublin. This role is critical to ensuring the facility operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory, environmental, and contractual obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee all aspects of plant operations, including staffing, maintenance, compliance, and reporting.

  • Ensure the facility meets performance standards, including availability, efficiency, and output targets.

  • Liaise with the Employer (Grange Backup Power Ltd), Project Manager, and external stakeholders.

Strategic Planning

  • Develop and implement long-term and annual operating plans and budgets.

  • Formulate business objectives and strategies aligned with contractual performance requirements.

Personnel Management

  • Recruit, appoint, and manage Operator Personnel including Shift Supervisors, technicians, and administrative staff.

  • Foster a positive industrial relations environment and ensure continuous staff development.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, including ISO/OHSAS 18001 standards.

  • Implement and maintain systems for safe and environmentally compliant operations.

  • Lead emergency response planning and execution.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Maintain strong relationships with local communities, regulatory bodies (EPA, EirGrid, ESBN), and service providers.

  • Represent the Operator in meetings with the Employer, EPC Contractor, GenSet Supplier, and other parties.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Ensure timely submission of Monthly Service Reports, Annual Operation Reports, and other required documentation.

  • Maintain accurate records of operations, maintenance, fuel usage, emissions, and outages.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy Systems) or equivalent.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in power plant operations, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.

  • Proven experience in managing large-scale energy facilities, preferably gas-fired generation.

  • Strong understanding of Irish and EU energy regulations, emissions licensing, and grid compliance.

  • Familiarity with Maintenance Management Systems (MMS), SCADA, and ISO standards.
