Key Requirements:

  • A third level qualification in Construction Management

  • Membership of a recognised professional body

  • 5 years post qualification experience in a similar role

  • A proven track record in delivering complex projects safely, on time, within budget and to high quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Contracts Manager, your key responsibilities will include, but not limited to;

Commercial Management

• Understand the subcontractor’s scope of works and commercial agreements through liaison with the project QS.

• Commercial instructions to be provided in accordance with subcontractor’s contracts – liaise with project QS.

• Assist in subcontractors works package scope, definition and procurement, as directed by your line manager.

• Assist in the management and cost control of direct labour, plant and material resources on the project.

• Raise material purchase orders as directed by your line manager.

• Have an outline understanding of Collen’s key main contract conditions.

• Assist in the identification of variation entitlements arising out of change of scope.

• Provide works completed quantities to the project QS where required.

• Be aware of the cost of work elements and your input into controlling the costs.

• Input into value engineering solutions.

• Maximise efficient work practices for everyone on the project.

• Assist the Project QS with the accounting, costing and billing to ensure the project is on budget.

Planning the Works & Progress Tracking

• Understand the construction and contract programme and track this weekly.

• Develop one week and six week lookahead plans as well as resource planning.

• Chair daily whiteboard meetings.

• Collect project tracking data for informing progress tracking, with the involvement of the site team to assist.

• Assist in maintaining the project on schedule and look for opportunities to get ahead

• Understand the planned sequence of activities and ensure that no short cuts are taken.

• Be aware of the programme risks, opportunities and controls required.

• Record plant, labour an materials used and planned to be used.

• Be aware of planning and organising your own time efficiently each day.

• Attend and positively contribute to internal subcontractor, design and client meetings, as directed by your line manager.

• Coordinate and manage subcontractor work packages as directed by your line manager.

• Innovate and implement lean construction practices.

Team

• Supervise, coach & develop engineers, site managers, foremen and the team assigned to you.

• Develop and maintain professional working relationships with all personnel.

• Represent Collen professionally, in discussions with subcontractors, client’s representatives, designers, statutory authorities, etc.

• Ensure the works are carried out in a safe manner. Observe and correct – Lead by example.

Health & Safety

• Ensure the Company and Project Health, Safety & Environmental Management System and Procedures are being

implemented.

• Read & understand the project Health, Safety & Environmental plan. Specific duties will be assigned to you.

• Health & Safety is the priority in everything we do. Plan accordingly.

• Don’t walk by.

• If it feels wrong, it usually is wrong. Seek out help, if you are not sure. Speak Up.

• “Creating Safer Sites” – Understand the concept and the benefit of applying behavioural science to managing safety.

• Be responsible for your section of the project and look out for your colleagues’ section of the project.

• Ensure temporary works are erected and dismantled in accordance with drawings and instructions. Refer to the project

assigned Temporary Works Co-ordinator.

• Assess the risks & implement the control measures.

• Do what you say you will do.

Quality Management

• Ensure that the Project and Company Quality Management System is implemented.

• Read & understand the project specific quality plan.

• Fully familiarise and understand all design drawings and specifications.

• Interrogate the design & identify potential problem issues. Talk through the issues with your line manager.

• Raise Request for Information (RFI’s) with our designers.

• Ensure all construction issued information is current and not out of date. Ensure the supply chain i.e site supervisors, trades & operatives on the project are working to the correct design information.

• Provide clear verbal & written communication to site supervisors, trades & operatives in order to assist them in completing the daily work activities correctly.

• Quality inspections & tests; Understand and complete the inspections and tests assigned to you. Be competent & trustworthy in completing these. Ask your line supervisor if you are not sure of something.

• Fieldview; This is our software for recording inspections and tests; Be familiar with its operation.

• Understand and operate our information management system.

• Assist in design & material submittals, for approval to the design representatives.

• Check that the quality of materials are as required in the specification & approved design submittal.

• Benchmark work elements of the build – Refer to agreed BCAR & Collen project specific requirements.

• Understand and operate the BCAR process, as directed by your line manager.

• Always ensure work is being completed correctly, in accordance with the design, specifications, planned methodologies and to a high standard of workmanship.

• Building Information Modelling (BIM) – Operate where required.

• Get it right first time and don’t wait for others to identify the issue. Anticipate the potential problems and resolve them before they happen.

• Prepare technical reports, daily site diary and other relevant documentation. Records, Records, Records.

• Seek client representative & designers’ approvals, where required.

• Building Regulations – Keep informed.

• No waste and No re-work.
