Blackrock Retail Upgrade named Retail Project of the Year 2021

We are delighted to announce that Blackrock Retail Upgrade took home the award for Retail Project of the Year at 2021 Irish Construction Industry Awards!

The project consisted of a new roof which forms part of a large refurbishment of the shopping centre recently completed by our team in Blackrock.

The new steel and glass gridshell canopy was designed by Lafferty Architects/Octatube and features three fluent tree-shaped columns which branch out under the grid. When seen from above, these steel columns have a diameter of 9 meters. The canopy is raised from the roof allowing for natural ventilation and is covered by more than 500 glass panels so daylight can flood the courtyard below.
 
The installation of the canopy roof required careful planning and logistics by our site team and a complex temporary works design. A crash desk was erected over the shopping centre while the new roof was constructed which allowed the shopping centre to remain fully operational throughout.
